About Us

Our Mission

Grand Valley Dance Troupe is a student-run, non-competitive dance organization at Grand Valley State University that provides an opportunity for dancers of all levels to express their passion for dance.

Our goal is to provide a fun and supportive dance experience to dancers of all backgrounds. While doing what we are passionate about, we build long-lasting friendships and memories for every member to cherish.

History

Founded by Grand Valley students in 1996, Grand Valley Dance Troupe, or GVDT, has been one of the most popular organizations at the university. What started out as a group of students coming together and taking class from one another has become an impressively organized full dance performance group.

A few years after GVDT's creation, the group decided to host performances and fundraise for a local organization. Organizations we have supported in the past have included the Sierra Club, Paws with a Cause, the Alzheimer's Association, Ronald McDonald house, and many more.

It’s beautiful that our annual group of about 100 dancers come together for such a great cause, all while doing something they love doing.

Fundraising

Dance Troupe proudly sponsors a different local organization every semester. At the end of each semester, GVDT members vote on what kind of organization they are interested in representing. The Executive Board provides kinds of organizations to support, then a specific group is chosen. Throughout the semester, monetary or physical donations are welcomed, then at the semester recital, money is collected from ticket sales and general donations to give to the organization. This semester, we anticipate donations solely through an external donating system due to limited capacities at shows.
